Alabama Student Angler Bass Fishing Association Announces

Bass Tournament on Weiss Lake for February 16th, 2013

The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce is proud to have the kick off tournament of the 2013 year for the Alabama Student Angler Bass Fishing Association on Weiss Lake.  High School teams from around the state, as well as our local teams from Cherokee County High School, will compete on Saturday, February 16th, 2013 for most weight.  Teams will fish 4 tournaments from February to April, to qualify for the Championship Tournament that will be held in May on Lay Lake.  Local Team Sponsor is Cody Alford.

The Friday night registration will be held at the Gadsden State Cherokee Arena in Centre. Professional Angler Allan Glasgow from Ashville will be speaking.  He is the Bassmaster’s Weekend Series 2011 Toyota BASS Weekend Series National Champion and 2011 Royal Purple Points Champion.  The Saturday morning launch will be held at Little River Marina and Lodge in Cedar Bluff, with the Saturday weigh-in to be held at the Gadsden State Cherokee Arena.

The Alabama Student Angler Bass Fishing Association is the grassroots umbrella organization in Alabama leading the way for the development of Student Angler Chapter Clubs that combines the sport of bass fishing in a way that promotes angler education by passing along traditions associated with the thrills of the outdoors on our great Alabama rivers and lakes. The Alabama Bass Fishing Association is dedicated to the recruitment and successful development of tomorrow’s future anglers to excel in the areas of leadership, personal, professional, and educational development while fostering an appreciation of the great outdoors and the love of bass fishing as a sport through competitive tournaments, activities, and contests.

The Association promotes the necessary skills and professional experience of our state’s student anglers to position them for future leadership positions and the friendly spirit of competition that they will need in later life. We also encourage the student angler to protect and promote the preservation of the sport of fishing’s natural resources, participate in community conservation projects and initiatives, and provide a social atmosphere for interaction with peers in a competitive environment that will build confidence for the future.

The Association’s programs and activities are designed to get our youth involved in character building, enhanced appreciation of the natural recreational resources, and teach them responsibility and duty to their team, their school, and their fellow anglers. Our members are committed to bringing recognition to the sport of bass fishing as a professionally organized and recognized student angler sport.

The Alabama Legislature passed House and Senate Joint Resolution HJR27 – Act – 2011-156 stating

Resolved by Both Houses Concurring, that we hereby recognize the Alabama Student Angler Bass  Fishing Association as the Official organization for student fishing anglers in the state of Alabama for Grades 7-12. Signed: Robert Bentley Jr. Governor

The Cherokee County Commission, Regions Bank, Cherokee Electric Coop and Lanny’s will sponsor a meal on Friday night at the registration for all the student anglers and their sponsor.  The Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to have the opportunity to have one of the 2013 tournaments on Weiss Lake.  The public is invited to the weigh in on Saturday February 16th beginning at 2:00pm at the Gadsden State Cherokee Arena, 801 Cedar Bluff Road in Centre, AL.
